here lies bob dylan murdered from behind by trembling flesh (Bob Dylan: Tarantula)
In the movie “Gun The Man Down”, it’s prostitute Janice who gets shot down by her jealous man, an outlaw who escapes with money from a bank robbery.
She says she rode off with him for the money; tells him that she actually loves the gang member left behind when he’s wounded in the holdup.
Starring in the movie are Angeline Dickenson as Janice, and James Arness as Rem, the outlaw left at the scene of the robbery. Actors Pedro Gonzalez, playing the deputy, and Harry Carey Jr. appear in the movie.
Flipping through the pages of “Tarantula” suggests that the movie “Gun The Man Down” influenced whatever storyline there is in Dylan’s humour-filled booklet.
But Dylan, obligated to write a book because of a contract signed by his manager, suffers a motorcycle accident that delays its release.
Yet there are clues in his booklet that suggest Bob Dylan has seen the movie.
1) Madonna. Mary of the Temple. Angelina the ***** all these women, their tears could make oceans in a deserted refrigerator carton (Tarantula).
Angelina used instead of Angeline or Angie.
2) Dear Mayor Wagner, has anybody ever told you, you like James Arness (Tarantula).
Opening and closing music to the hell-like Dantesque movie is composed by Henry Vars.
The gal of light and peace – Doris Day – can be considered slammed inside the pages of Dylan’s booklet:
5) Doris Day gone & Pacific fog
(Tarantula)
Vars composed the music and Bill Dunham the lyrics to Doris Day’s ‘Walk With Him’:
He will shelter you when there is stormy weather Go with Him if you should have to roam And if you lose your way, He's there to guide you Take His hand, and He will lead you home (Doris Day: Walk With Him ~ Vars/Dunham)
