The AntiRa

by Larry Fyffe

According to Egyptian mythology, Ra, parentless, separates the oceanic sky-god from his sister, the earth, goddess, they being bound too tightly together to achieve anything.

Thereafter Ra becomes the god of the sun. His sister Hathor becomes the goddess of the earth, including its moon.

They marry and produce a son who becomes known as Horus the Elder.

The Eye Of Ra symbolises the protective power of Ra’s sister and consort; she becomes overly violent when doing so; Ra provides beer dyed red to calm her down – it makes her happy; she sings and dances.

In later mythology, brother and sister Osiris and Isis, god of the earth and goddess of the earth and moon, produce a son known as Horus the Younger.

The Eye Of Horus symbolises the eye injury he suffers in a fight with brother Set.

Displayed by Bob Dylan for a time at the back of the stage.

People, male and female, when they die are weighed by Anabis against a feather, two according to Osiris, to determine who is worthy of continuing the journey on into the afterlife. A few especially worthy get to return as a human being for a while in the upper world.

A dead body is cut up and and pickled to protect it from decay so that the soul and body can be re-united later on, and live a happy life in the underworld.

The AntiRa asserts that individual humans and cats die, and they’re dead forever.

And time may be oceanic, but it does not go on eternally:

Oh, sister, when I come to knock on your door
Don't turn away, you'll create sorrow
Time is an ocean, but it ends at the shore
You may not see me tomorrow

(Bob Dylan: Oh Sister ~ Dylan/Levy)

The art of the singer/songwriter/musician Bob Dylan focuses on poetic metaphors, conceits, allegories, and archetypes, accompanied by music to set the mood.

Reincarnation only seemingly indicated in the song below:

All these people that you mention
Yes, I know them, they're quite lame
I had to rearrange their faces
And give them all another name
(Bob Dylan: Desolation Row)
