The last time I wrote about this song I wrote “To fall in love with you” is the third most accessed file on this site. The only articles that have been read more are “Hard Rain’s A Gonna Fall” and “Times they are a changing”. From that I conclude that maybe quite a few others share my love of this song..
And just to add to the fun most of the links that over time put onto this site to this song have now gone. If the one above vanishes just go searching on the internet – at the moment there seem to be a few around.
One of the many things that fascinates about this beautiful song, which it seems was never really finished, let alone released as a completed work, is that the music is so un-Dylan, and yet when he sings the song it sounds perfectly Dylan. I guess he just couldn’t find a way to finish it off.
Anyway, I found on the internet a copy of the song witht the lyrics, and since I have raved over the piece so much I thought I would copy the link here.
Of course one of the problems with the way we pick up Dylan recordings is that we are totally dependent on the person who has put the video up, keeping it up, and over that of course I have no control. All I can say is a continuing thank you to everyone who provides that service to finding Dylan recordings and putting them on line for all of us to find.
Here is a version of the lyrics – maybe someone could ask Bob to finish it off…. The version below is not presented as some sort of definitive version – it is no better and is probably worse than other people’s – it is just here in case you wanted to see where Bob’s lyrics were heading when he made this recording…
I would add that this is one of the Dylan songs that fascinates me most and I have returned to it on this site over and over again. A list of some earlier articles appears at the end…
A tear goes down my day is real Put your drying eye upon the shame Each leads a road for me from you What's paradise? what can I do? That die for my and the day is dark I can’t believe or need your touch What I could find oh time is right If I fall in love to fall in love To fall in love with you The day is dark, our time is right Day in the night, deep in the night We can’t be back I heard my surprise I see it in your lips I knew it in your eyes Well I feel your love and I feel no shame I can’t unleash your hopee I call your name What you’re to me what can I do? To fall in love, to fall in love To fall in love with you It just rolls upon the sand Ever this for now I’m made a man Can I make you see what I can find I know it in my days in my daily mind Oh will ages roll will angels fly? I hear your name where angels lie What do I know for to come, it’s true To fall in love to fall in love To fall in love with you How can the doors trust on a nail? How can I be surprised of most every day? In the distant road I can’t be the same I feel no love I feel no shame I can’t watch the day out on my own We’ve a destined man I can attest it all I didn’t I could find where I could go To fall in love to fall in love To fall in love with you
